◎简　　介
　　修建设想师道格（保罗?纽曼 Paul Newman 饰）在自己设想的旧金山摩天大楼完工之际，希望抛开工作，起头计划已久的远行，但是此时，主仓库传来了报警信号，在大楼批示中心哈里辅佐下，道格查明保险终端柜没有绝缘庇护，而整栋大楼的电路都远没有到达自己的设想要求。大楼修建商邓肯和半子罗杰为了节省修建本钱，下降了大楼防火规格。邓肯和一班各界名流齐聚于135层的舞厅庆贺大楼完工，电路系统不胜负荷终究激发现火，道格和前来灭火的消防队长迈克（史蒂夫?麦奎因 Steve McQueen 饰）力劝邓肯分散人群。消防设备不完善的摩天楼火势很快难以控制，道格、哈里以及迈克的消防队员们各展其长救济人群，但澎湃的大火，似乎要吞噬一切……
