◎幕后揭秘
　　影片拍摄于1979年，前后花了两年时间才拍摄完毕，成本约8万5千美元。电影的资金明显受限制，物质上的匮乏随处可见：只能用16毫米的胶片拍成；在一个小木屋和周边的小树林中完成大部分情节的拍摄。电影开始部分汽车开过铁桥是电影中少有的几个外景之一，但在这个镜头中，在本应荒无人烟的野外却有路人经过，由此可看出资金的匮缺。
　　此外，电影用非常简陋的摄像机拍成，使用的设备和装置也非常规和笨拙，即使在今天用数码修复之后，看起来依然象家庭录影带，但一班拍摄人员都有着弥补缺陷的天分，用简陋凑合的设备拍摄出的电影画面却处处充满了创新和机智。《鬼玩人》一上映即轻易地胜过了先前声名狼籍的导演处女秀《魔屋》（The Last House on the Left）和《德州电锯杀人狂》（The Texas Chainsaw Massacre，1974），片中创造性的滑稽因素为此片增添了有趣但同时令人不安的感觉。
　　山姆·雷米本人没有受过任何电影方面的专业训练，拍摄时完全凭着感觉行事。影片的剧情本身十分苍白，而山姆·雷米的真正着力点在于气氛的营造和此起彼伏的惊悚桥段设置。山姆·雷米通过画面的剪接与镜头的移动使得整个恐怖场景张力十足，展现出其卓绝的控制力。该片的配乐和音效在今天看来似乎并不算高明，甚至稍显繁琐，但其无所不用其极的态度使得它们与画面结合得天衣无缝。尤其值得称道的是山姆·雷米的掌镜能力，与迈克尔·贝炉火纯青的全局镜头相比，山姆·雷米更加注重主观镜头的运动性和视角的自由切换，也正是因为他的这个始终不曾改变的拍摄理念才使得蜘蛛侠在纽约的高楼大厦间穿梭时看起来更加自如和惊险。
　　低廉的成本并不能阻挡镜头中渗透出来的恐怖，近乎无控制的暴力和血腥镜头在80年代初是非常震撼的。《鬼玩人》以其创新的不断变换的镜头语言，突如其来的冲突，节奏的变换，成片成片的血块，幽灵似的跟拍镜头的运用，以及穿插其中的黑色幽默，令观众在一波三折的情节中，陷入到无法自拔的恐惧中去。并由此形成了山姆·雷米独特的电影风格。影片拍摄时，正值恐怖片的低潮时期，该片堪称一流的恐怖场面和氛围营造手段对其后的恐怖片产生了深远的影响，不仅迅速窜红欧美及东南亚，被视为欧美最具影响力和最受欢迎的经典鬼怪惊悚片，甚至得到了史蒂芬·金这样的恐怖大师的高度赞赏和推崇，并由此引发了新一轮的恐怖片风潮，例如其后的续集、《群尸玩过界》和《活死人归来》。
