　　失业未几的特拉维斯（阿德里安·布洛迪 Adrien Brody 饰）在报纸上看到一则招工启事，报酬为两周14000美圆。为此所吸引，特拉维斯怅然前往。本来这是某机构倡议的尝试，研讨者宣称尝试将在州立牢狱停止，包括特拉维斯在内的26名介入者被分红狱警和囚 犯，狱警必须依照严酷的规定来治理犯人，不服从号令者将遭到赏罚。原本只以为是一场有钱可拿的脚色饰演游戏，但随着尝试的停止，权利的意志渐渐获得表现，一切的人都似乎丢失在脚色当中……
　　本片按照2001年的德国影片《Das Experiment》改编，故事取材自马利奥·乔丹努（Mario Giordano）的小说《黑盒子》。
