两千年前，平生沉醉于腐蚀众生，散布失望的术士“极恶者”Nhagruul在他行迁就木之时堕入了发急。怀抱着对生者的憎恨，纳古尔将他的灵魂出售给了无底深渊中的恶魔领主以求保全自己邪恶的灵魂。在一场疾苦的仪式中，Nhagruul的皮肤被剥下拆解，制成了一本书的册页；他的骸骨化成了书的封皮；而他浑浊废弛的血液成为了写就这本恶之书的墨水。一切打仗这本书的人都被它的气力卷入疯狂，又或是被其中邪祟的常识腐蚀深陷邪恶当中。Nhagruul的信徒四周散布他们仆人黑暗的梦乡，陪伴他们的脚步而来的是苦痛和鲜血。秽恶之物从不洁的深坑与古墓中走上空中，在狂乱当中破坏一切。Karkoth的城邦和王国被如瘟疫般散布的邪恶之力蚕食，直到一支勇士从灰烬中站起——朝阳骑士团发下誓词要为四方重新带来希望。光亮之神培罗为他们纯洁的弘愿所动，赐予骑士可以指导其神力的护符。为神力所祝愿的朝阳骑士们击破了覆盖大地的阴影。但是，并不是一切人都为他们的荣光所动。Nhagruul的信徒拆分了秽恶之书，又买通了三名为贪欲所迷之人藏匿这些碎片，期待它们可以再度重聚之日。后来，书的墨水被发现摧毁。但是册页与封面却从未被找到。诸国在战争中度过了数个世纪，而当初的骑士则沉迷于自己的光荣当中。对曩昔的可骇记忆逐步模糊，同时磨灭的还有这些培罗信徒的气力。他们误以为秽恶之书永久不成能再度重现，在这类毛病的念想中，他们逐步纵容了自己……
